You like, comment, and share stories you’d like to see more often
The algorithm on LinkedIn is similar to Facebook’s but a bit more subtle. Everything you like, share, or comment on get’s a boost in your upcoming feed. If you see something on LI that you’d like to see more of, a contributor you like, click the link. (That’s +1) If you share it to your feed (+2) and the big win for a content creator, a comment (+3) will boost them up a few positions on your LI feed.
LI is not OpenSocial, because it’s still a bit of a walled garden. But, as I move off Facebook for good, LI is becoming my platform of choice.
Of course, I’ve got to be careful as I up my engagement on LI that I don’t flood my feed with all of my thoughts and jokes. This is not a professional look. I’ve already dialed back the sharing of my “side hustle” content.
LI is a platform for seeking your next job, for connecting with your network, and expanding your network. LI is a platform for learning. LI is fairly effective if you are marketing to business professionals or other businesses.
Let’s make LI a better place. It’s already so much cleaner (fewer BS ads) than Facebook, but don’t be fooled or complacent. There are scammers on LI as well. Fake accounts that are trying to build marketing distribution networks or email lists. Don’t friend that cute person from Bangalore if you don’t know them.
LinkedIn is the best we have, right now, but we can do better. Where is the next social media platform?
