I've never imagined that my BMW was too fast or too cool. Why should Apple try to make everyone happy? They don't need to make low-end laptops, everyone's doing it. They might need to make mid-range Macs, like you suggest, but as they are crushing the new microprocessors, what's the point of going backwards?

Another unmitigated design disaster was The Cube. It was gorgeous, completely silent, and dead on arrival.

That sounds like a problem with the people you're hanging with. None of the non-tech folks care if you're Apple or Andriod or whatever flavor of Android you call the OS on the Pixel. I am an Apple fanboi. AND, for good reason. I don't care what NEVERAAPL folks say. As the iPhone and Watch and Mac continue to frame the high-end of the computer market. The bottom is left for the other brands, other OSes, other people who hate Apple. I don't care about the hype, but I do like the product, the seamless ecosystem, and the way Apple apparently cares about it's UX rather than WINDOWS or ANDROID.
